December 2, 2016

When Monica Giragosian received one of her first leading roles with American Repertory Ballet, director Douglas Martin reminded her of the importance of basic technique.

“My second season, I had the opportunity to perform Juliet in Douglas’ original production of Romeo and Juliet. He stressed the importance of me taking pointe classes to be lighter on my feet. I would take student pointe classes to go back to the basics and focus on the technique.

Douglas Martin danced with Joffrey Ballet, Cleveland Ballet and American Repertory Ballet. He has been the artistic director of ARB for six years.
