This Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we’re honoring the deep artistic lineages and contemporary voices shaping dance across the Asian American diaspora. In our Dance History column, you’ll learn about Michio Ito, a Japanese choreographer and dancer who established himself as a pioneer of modern dance. You’ll also meet Peter Veth, a torchbearer of Cambodian classical ballet in the U.S.
Also timely to this season—and especially resonant as we approach Mother’s Day—is our feature on teaching dance postpartum. We’ll discuss what it takes to make a safe, smooth return, and what meaningful support looks like when studios create welcoming conditions without stigma or pressure.
Later this month, you’ll also discover how the students at San Diego Academy of Ballet are finding international success through their Vaganova training and how a Brazilian social project is helping transform the lives of young dancers from southern Chile.
With excitement,
Reanne Rodrigues
