Letter From the Editor: Fresh Perspectives for Spring
April 2, 2026

Spring is a season of growth, renewal, and fresh possibilities—and the dance studio is no different. As new energy blooms around us, it’s the perfect time for us to infuse new ideas and inspiration into our teaching.

First up, we’re diving into a lively conversation about “Creating Cross-Disciplinary Collaborations in K–12” in our next DT+ Teacher Talk on Thursday, April 23, at 12 pm EDT. Shana Habel, K–12 arts coordinator for the Los Angeles Unified School District, joins us to discuss ways that dance educators can collaborate with classroom teachers and co-design lesson plans that align with school-year goals—bringing deeper meaning and relevance to students’ dance training. In our Technique & Artistry column, we’re exploring muscle memory. You’ll learn strategies for helping corrections stick and keeping practice intentional instead of just repetitive. You’ll also get advice on helping your dancers unlearn old habits, build solid technique, and even use muscle memory to expand their artistic expression.

And later this month, we’re diving into how you can handle those particularly tough and tricky classes—when personalities clash, energy is off, or students are just plain rude. You’ll find practical tips for reclaiming control while taking care of both yourself and your dancers.

With excitement,
