See The Royal Ballet’s The Sleeping Beauty in a Movie Theater Near You!
March 10, 2014

The wigs alone for this production must cost a pretty penny–check out the King’s luscious locks.

Planning a trip across the pond (the Atlantic Ocean, that is) next week? We thought not—which is why we’re telling you about The Royal Ballet’s partnership with Alliance Arts Media to bring their production of The Sleeping Beauty to movie theaters all over the U.S. (And, therefore, to you.) This ballet/movie event is the last in The Royal Ballet’s Cinema Series, and it’ll be in theaters next Thursday, March 20, at 7 pm—only a day after the actual production in London. So basically you’re seeing the show live. With American-turned-British ballerina Sarah Lamb dancing the lead of Princess Aurora!

If you’ve seen DT’s January History: Lesson Plan on Marius Petipa, you’ve already got some background on the famous ballet, originally choreographed in 1890, toward the end of the great ballet master’s career. The Royal Ballet’s version is big and beautiful: It uses all 98 company members and 80 tutus.
