Calling All Canadians!
September 27, 2013

Lindsay Fischer with artists from YOU danceFor our Canadian readers out there, don’t worry—we haven’t forgotten you! (Eh?) We’re pleased to help spread the word that on Wednesday, October 9, at 12:30 pm, The National Ballet of Canada’s education and outreach program YOU dance will be streamed live to classrooms across Ontario. If you find yourself strapped for lesson plans, just tune in. Students in fourth, fifth and sixth grade can watch The National Ballet’s apprentices perform from The Betty Oliphant Theatre in Toronto and listen to NBC soloist Lisa Robinson’s lecture-demonstration. Ah, technology!

The aim of YOU dance, according to the organization’s artistic director Lindsay Fischer, is to connect NBC’s performance novices (the apprentices, that is) with dance audience novices (students from the Greater Toronto area). The program has had great success since its inception in 2007—more than 200 classes participated last year, which means 4,500 kids were introduced to dance. Best of all, it’s free.

Classes who wish to participate in the live stream have to register, which they can do here.
