What My Teacher Taught Me: Rebecca Rasmussen
July 5, 2017

When MOMIX’s Rebecca Rasmussen was studying at Moorpark College in California, her professors Dennon and Sayhber Rawles gave her the confidence she needed to pursue a career in dance.

“They prepared me through their belief that I could do it. They didn’t necessarily know what I was going to do or who I was going to dance with, but they knew that I was going to be a professional dancer. They always believed in me, so there was never any doubt that I could do this. I think that when you have teachers who really believe in you, that is something that is very special.”

Dennon and Sayhber Rawles are dance professors at Moorpark College. They were also choreographers for Staying Alive (1983) and Bugsy (1991), among other feature films.

Don’t miss MOMIX at The Joyce Theater in New York City, performing now through Sunday, July 16.
