From director shifts, notable awards, and beyond, here are the major dance educator moves you should know about from spring 2024.
Aaron Tolson has been named the inaugural director of dance at Saint Anselm College’s Aaron Tolson Institute of Dance.
Patricia Seto-Weiss has been named head of dance at Brown University’s Department of Theatre Arts & Performance Studies.
Anne Hogan will depart Ithaca College, where she is dean of the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance, at the end of the academic year to become dean of Chapman University’s College of Performing Arts. Associate deans Louis Loubriel and Steve TenEyck will serve as interim deans.
Juel D. Lane has been named director of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts School of Dance’s Choreographic Institute.
Trinidad Vives has been named the next school director of The Washington School of Ballet after having served as acting artistic director of The Washington Ballet for fall 2023. She will begin at the post in time for the school’s 2024 summer programs.
Dmitri Kulev and Jennifer Kulev have been named the next directors of the School of Nashville Ballet, beginning in August. Helen Yeoman-Shaw has joined the organization as manager of the Children’s, Adaptive and Adult Programs.
Lynne Charles has been appointed artistic director of English National Ballet School and will succeed Viviana Durante in September.
Dario Elia has been named deputy artistic director, and Mthuthuzeli November artistic associate, of Dutch National Ballet Academy, beginning with the 2024–25 academic year. Ernst Meisner will continue as artistic director.
Sasha Janes has been named the inaugural Bonnefoux-McBride artistic director of the Chautauqua School of Dance.
Christopher Alloways-Ramsey has been named education director of the Orlando Ballet School. Shane Bland has been named manager of Orlando Ballet’s community engagement division.
Charmaine Hunter has been named community engagement director at Sarasota Ballet.
Boy Blue (founders Michael “Mikey J” Asante and Kenrick “H2O” Sandy) has been named guest artistic director of the UK’s National Youth Dance Company for 2024–25.
Hari Krishnan, Rebecca Lazier, Emily Wilcox, and Abby Zbikowski are among the 2024 Guggenheim Fellows.
Ishmael Houston-Jones will receive the American Dance Festival’s 2024 Balasaraswati/Joy Anne Dewey Beinecke Endowed Chair for Distinguished Teaching, which includes a $5,000 honorarium, on June 30.
Penn State University professor of dance Michele Dunleavy has been named Penn State Laureate for the 2024–25 academic year.
