The Dance Institute of Washington Welcomes New School Director
August 17, 2015

The Dance Institute of Washington welcomes Kahina Haynes to the position of school director. Haynes brings 15 years of experience in dance, public education and administration to DIW. Under the direction of founder and artistic director Fabian Barnes, DIW operates a studio school, education outreach program and professional dance company.

Hailing from Washington, DC, Haynes grew up studying ballet, tap and jazz. She trained at the Maryland Youth Ballet and attended programs at the School of American Ballet and American Ballet Theatre. As a professional dancer, she performed with Miami City Ballet and Ballet Nacional de Costa Rica, among others. She earned a BA from Princeton University and a master’s degree in social program and policy development from Oxford University.

In her new role as school director, Haynes plans to implement ABT’s National Training Curriculum and prepare DIW for accreditation by the National Association of Schools of Dance. She has plans for new youth programs that will further DIW’s mission to provide youth from diverse backgrounds the opportunity to develop the skills needed for a successful future.

Welcome Kahina Haynes!
