Save the Date for the 2022 Dance Teacher Awards!

The much-loved and highly-anticipated 2022 Dance Teacher Awards are taking place at an in-person ceremony on Thursday, August 18, at The Sheen Center for Thought & Culture in NYC—and you are invited to join us!
After reviewing hundreds of nominations, the DT Awards selection committee has chosen to honor eight extraordinary dance educators:
- Awardees of Distinction: Kay Mazzo, former chairman of faculty at the School of American Ballet and principal dancer at New York City Ballet, and Risa Steinberg, current faculty and former Dance Division Associate Director at The Juilliard School, Choreography Fellows Program co-director at Jacob’s Pillow, former cast member of Sleep No More and the José Limón Dance Company
- Ronald Alexander, director of education, emeritus, the Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Youth Arts Academy in Brooklyn and currently ballet educator and administrator at The Ailey School, Stella Adler School of Acting, Black Arts Institute in NYC and Concepts Dance Academy in South Orange, N.J.
- Antonio Douthit-Boyd and Kirven Douthit-Boyd, co-artistic directors of dance at the Center of Creative Arts (COCA) and former dancers at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater
- Kristine Elliott, former American Ballet Theatre soloist, current national/international ballet coach, and founder and president of Gugulethu Ballet Project, a nonprofit organization that shares the art of classical ballet in South African townships
- Ana Nery Fragoso, director of the Arnhold Graduate Dance Education Program at CUNY’s Hunter College and former director of dance for the New York City Department of Education Office of Arts and Special Projects
- Yvonne Gutierrez, veteran faculty member at Henry Street Settlement, Ballet Hispánico’s School of Dance teaching Spanish dance/ flamenco/Latin Styles, and renowned for her use of dance, mentorship and dance education to serve overlooked communities and promote HIV/AIDS awareness as the director of her dance group Herencia.
