The idea behind all four volumes of choreographer Richard Daniels’ iPhone app is simple: short videos of mature modern dancers, clad in rehearsal clothes, dancing in a studio filled with natural light. This app isn’t concerned with high-tech features or an ultra-mod interface. Instead, Daniels has crafted seven short dances (set to the music of musical theater composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim for this version) that can be viewed from the palm of your hand. Enjoy watching seasoned dancers like Carmen de Lavallade, Risa Steinberg, Megan Williams and Deborah Jowitt give heartfelt, unadorned performances that feel as if they’re meant for your eyes only.
