Teachers in Training Hold Free Community Classes

In 2010, University of South Carolina graduate student Emily Enloe launched Dancers Connect at the university with director of dance education and DC founder Mila Parrish. The outreach program arranges for USC undergraduate dance ed majors to teach free weekly classes to local middle and high school students. (The win-win setup lets college students log teaching hours while offering a chance to dance for kids who couldn’t necessarily afford classes.)

Enloe’s work with DC was recognized with a NDEO scholarship last fall, and the good news keeps on coming. Two weeks ago, Dr. Parrish announced the establishment of a Dancers Connect program at the University of North Carolina–Greensboro (where Parrish now works). Some ideas are too good not to spread.
