The Gelsey Kirkland Academy of Classical Ballet in New York City is offering its first-ever storybook-ballet summer camp, June 23–27. Kids ages 3–8 will learn about a different story ballet every day–The Sleeping Beauty, Coppélia, The Nutcracker, Peter and the Wolf and Swan Lake. “We’re going to make them fall in love with these ballets,” says Alexandra Gonzalez, summer camp faculty member and year-round instructor at the Academy. Gelsey Kirkland started the school with her husband Michael Chernov in 2010. She achieved fame as both a New York City Ballet and American Ballet Theatre principal, and Chernov has taught ballet at the Victorian College of the Arts in Australia.
