We’ve already written about some of the American Tap Dance Foundation’s goings-on for National Tap Dance Day on May 25, but now we have some more news to share. In addition to three different performances of the Shim Sham Shimmy (at 1, 2 and 3 pm) on Pier 45 in New York City’s Hudson River Park, as well as performances by ATDF’s Tap City Youth Ensemble, there will be open jam sessions and special appearances by hoofers like Chloé Arnold (and her company, Apt 33), Jason Samuels Smith, Max Pollak, Michela Marino Lerman and Japan’s Kazu Kumagai.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of National Tap Dance Day, which was signed into law by President George W. Bush in 1989. May 25 was chosen as the annual date because it is the birthday of tap legend Bill “Bojangles” Robinson.
