McCallum Theatre Institute Awarding Thousands of Dollars to Choreographers
February 26, 2014

“I Hit the Ground,” choreographed by Lauren Edson, 2013 Division I Paid Engagement Award winner

Missed the deadlines for past choreography festivals? Still looking to break into the national choreography scene? Got a group of talented kids you’d like to create work on? Check out the McCallum Theatre Institute’s Choreography Festival in Palm Desert, CA, now in its 17th year. Choreographers can compete in two different divisions (professional or pre-professional dancers), and the cash awards are nothing to scoff at, ranging from $250 to $10,000. Plus, if you submit early—by April 1—you’ll save $20 off the normal $80 application fee.

If your work is selected as a finalist, you and your dancers will travel to the McCallum Theatre in early November to perform your choreography for an audience and panel of judges as you compete for cash awards.

There are entry stipulations—as well as details on the history of the festival and past winners and finalists—so be sure to visit mccallumtheatre.com.
