March is many things—the start of spring, when you begin to cement recital dances, a time when it is acceptable to consume bunny-shaped chocolate—and now, it’s something else. At the beginning of this month, the New York City Council honored Lincoln Center Education with an official proclamation: March is Lincoln Center Education month!

We’re lucky, here in New York, to have access to the many great programs LCE provides in the way of arts education—like the recent Lincoln Center Scholars program, in which LCE and Hunter College partner to train and place dance teachers in public schools without arts programs. Or like the two-week-long Middle School Arts Audition Boot Camp, which gives rising eighth graders from low-income communities the chance to audition for competitive high school arts programs (while encouraging parent involvement, too). Or like Up And Away, a multi-sensory theatrical experience for kids on the autism spectrum.

The proclamation was presented at a ceremony at Council Chambers at City Hall in New York by the City Council to representatives of Lincoln Center and Lincoln Center Education on March 9, 2016.

Don’t miss a single issue of Dance Teacher.
