Is Naked Dance Okay?
August 16, 2012

Alastair Macaulay’s article in the Times today takes a measured, introspective look into dance nudity. Macaulay notes several nakedness-included dance performances that seemed gimmicky, but he also mentions a few that he approved of. His final word on the subject is that such nudity is, at the very least, opening up new avenues of thought in dance.

Well, yes. It’s certainly thought-provoking. And it’s even begun to creep into the notoriously conservative ballet world. So what’s your opinion on nudity in dance? Is it just another shock-inducing trick for choreographers to pull out of their hats, or is there beauty and nuance to be found in naked dancing?—Rachel Rizzuto
