If you want to meet women, you’d better learn to dance. It’s a long-held theory, a clever marketing tool for studio owners and the focus of a new romantic comedy coming out this year.
In Cuban Fury, an awkward employee (played by Nick Frost from The World’s End and Shaun of the Dead) enrolls in salsa classes to impress his attractive, dance-loving boss (Rashida Jones, “Parks and Recreation”). The only problem? Competition from a confident co-worker (Chris O’Dowd, Bridesmaids) determined to make the first move.
The flick promises salsa club scenes and performances, dance studio antics and at least one man versus man dance-off. Something tells me the fellow with the moves is going to get the girl.
As a salsa-lover, I have often thought guys miss out on a serious singles scene at Latin dance parties. After all, there are dozens of weekly events in Manhattan alone. Here’s hoping more of New York’s young men will heed the wisdom of Cuban Fury and get their butts to class…and out on the dance floor.
