How Beyoncé Won the Super Bowl
February 8, 2016

I think it’s safe to say that the past two days have been “The Weekend of Beyoncé.” The day before her Super Bowl halftime appearance, she dropped a new single-cum-video, “Formation,” with choreography by none other than Dana Foglia (DT, October 2015)JaQuel Knight (the guy who did “Single Ladies”) and Chris Grant. Oh, and she announced a new tour right after her performance.

Then—to use a turn of phrase from “Formation”—she slayed with her performance at the Super Bowl halftime show. OK, so Coldplay was technically the headliner, with Bruno Mars (nope, “Uptown Funk” ain’t dead yet) and Beyoncé as special guests. But how can you compete with the smooth moves of Mars (plus his on-point choice of an MC Hammer getup) and Beyoncé’s hard-hitting throw-down choreography? She and her ladies were like the dance team of everyone’s wildest dreams.

Even an almost-fall couldn’t stop Queen Bey. (Hey, it’s hard dancing in heels!) Or, as a friend of mine put it on Facebook, it’s not so much “Beyoncé almost falls” as it is “Fall almost Beyoncés.”

If you somehow managed to miss the show, here it is—the important stuff, at least: Beyoncé’s entrance and her dance-off with Mars:
