New Orleans–based artist Heather Hansen isn’t afraid to get dirty.
Hansen, who as a dancer, painter and sculptor is making a real run for Renaissance Woman Of The Year, creates charcoal works on huge sheets of paper by stretching and sliding her body around—almost like a dance. The pieces she produced at the Ochi Gallery in Idaho were part of a project called “Emptied Gestures.” All are large in scale and pleasing in symmetry, and Hansen made her process a live performance as part of the exhibition.
Her work is a fascinating collaboration between dance and visual art—check out this video of her creative process on her website, or browse the images collected from her live performance here.
