Boston Marathon Bombing Survivor Debuts Her New Bionic Leg—and Her Dance Skills!
March 20, 2014

Remember Adrianne Haslet-Davis, the dance teacher injured in the Boston Marathon bombing whose leg was eventually amputated? She vowed she’d one day dance again, and we’ve got an update: Yesterday, she danced publicly for the first time since the bombing, with a new prosthetic leg, courtesy of Hugh Herr. Herr is the director of the Biomechatronics Group at The MIT Media Lab and a double amputee himself, with a mission to improve prostheses. He and Haslet-Davis were part of a TED Talk, in conjunction with the 2014 TED Conference in Vancouver.

Haslet-Davis and her partner, professional dancer Christian Lightner, performed a rumba to Enrique Iglesias’ “Ring My Bells.” She wore a short, fringe-y costume, all the better to show off her new bionic leg.

Haslet-Davis thanks Herr, left.

Although the video of the TED Talk hasn’t been released, a few photos have. Haslet-Davis looks beautiful and confident, and we’re looking forward to whenever her “Dancing with the Stars” debut will happen!
