About the Workshops

Session 1: Introducing the New Ailey Teacher Certification Program: Ailey Horton Technique
Presented by Tracy Inman, The Ailey School Co-Director/Ailey Teacher Certification Program Director and Lakey Evans-Peña, Ailey Teacher Certification Program Associate Director, this workshop highlights the new Ailey Teacher Certification Program: Ailey Horton Technique which has been developed to provide teachers with a comprehensive understanding of the Horton technique as seen through the lenses of the historical legacy, creative philosophy, and artistic visions of Lester Horton and Alvin Ailey. In establishing this groundbreaking hybrid-learning curriculum, Inman and Evans-Peña aim to share the heritage of these two dance icons and explore the meaning of their legacies while providing support for today’s dance educators and their students. During this workshop, a sample Ailey School Horton class for educators will be presented, followed by a question-and-answer period. Join us to enjoy a lively overview of this soon-to-be accredited certification program, rooted in cultural context, representation, and artistic vision.

Session 2: Choosing the right Rosco dance floor for your studio.
Rosco’s Henry Cowen and Tom Siko take you step-by-step through the process of selecting the right Rosco dance floor for your dance studio or space. You’ll get an insider’s view into which floor specifications matter most, how each floor is installed, how to measure your studio space, and care for each floor. During this session, samples of Rosco’s Dance Floor, Adagio®, and Duètte™ floors will be available for you to test.
