FJK Dance performed A Fusion of Culture and Dance/Message of Peace this past week at Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College, 695 Park Ave.

Hailing from Iraq, Fadi Khoury, FJK Dance’s artistic director, had a mission with the special performance: to break down cultural boundaries, bring understanding between cultures and to promote “opportunity and hope the USA has for refugees and immigrants,” he says. For more information, visit here.

Khoury’s company recently went on a 31-day tour of China. Here are some of the moments captured at the beautiful theaters, schools and sites visited.

The company made the 24-hour trip to China. Upon arrival, they were welcomed with grace and open arms, says associate artist and principal dancer Sevin Ceviker.

In the first two weeks of the tour, the company performed eight shows to packed houses.

Schools extended invitations to the company, and each school purchased hundreds of tickets for their students to attend performances.

Throughout the tour, the company met with art students in various cities. Company members here are teaching repertoire from FJK Dance.

The education goes beyond the school walls and allows students to be exposed to different cultures, says Ceviker.

Tour life can be tough, so taking naps is important.
