It’s our time of year, dancers! In the midst of National Dance Week, we celebrate our favorite art form on a global scale with International Dance Day. The holiday was created by the International Theatre Institute to mark the April 29 birthday of Jean-Georges Noverre, a predecessor of classical ballet. IDD’s mission? “To revel in the universality of this art form, to cross all political, cultural and ethnic barriers and bring people together with a common language: dance.”
This year’s International Dance Day message is presented by Cloud Gate Dance Theatre founder Lin Hwai-min. Watch it here, then “turn off your television, switch off your computer, and come to dance.”
