If you can’t travel across the pond to see The Royal Ballet live, let the company come to you! Works by The Royal Ballet’s founding choreographer, Frederick Ashton, will be screened in movie theaters in numerous U.S. cities on July 11.
The major cities include: Philadelphia, Detroit, Chicago, Seattle, Indianapolis, St. Louis, San Francisco, New York City, Baltimore, Milwaukee and Minneapolis, among others. The mixed program will include Ashton’s interpretation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Dream, which has become a classic in the company’s repertory; Symphonic Variations; and the passionate piece celebrating the partnership between Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev, Marguerite and Armand.
Ashton’s works define the English style of ballet—characterized most notably by precise, fleet footwork, sensuous épaulement (the way the shoulders are held) and simple, yet beautiful, lines.
