This demi-plié series is a staple of Laurie De Vito’s Simonson warm-up, and it includes her penchant for spirals and sequential movement (movement that travels through the body in succession). This combination gives special attention to proper alignment and negative space.

De Vito helped found the now-closed Dance New Amsterdam (formerly Dance Space) in New York City, where she taught for 30 years. She teaches at Steps on Broadway, Gibney Dance Center, Mark Morris Dance Center and Peridance Capezio Center.

Demonstrator Rachel Feinerman has danced for Laurie De Vito and taught at DNA for 15 years.
