Competition is a dance teacher’s battleground, and in order to be victorious, you need to have a few defenses in your bag at all times. You never know when something unexpected will happen, and your students will need their trusty dance teacher/hero to come in and fix everything. To help you be the most prepared you can be, we’ve compiled a list of essentials you should have on you at all times during competition. Keep them with you, and the weekend is yours for the taking!
1. Extra Teacher/Viewer Passes
One of your teachers is bound to forget their teacher or viewer pass, no matter how many times you beg them not to. It’s infuriating, but it doesn’t change the fact that you need their help, so bring an extra one for security just in case anything goes wrong.
2. Butt Glue
Trust us. You do NOT want your dancers slipping out onstage. Most students will forget to bring this with them, so carry it on you. This way you’ll be certain every last one of them is covered before going in front of the judges.
3. Extra Lipstick
Those little tubes are easy to lose. Come prepared because SOMEBODY won’t have theirs come show time. Trust us.
4. Dance Mom/Student Contact Information
Just in case your students don’t show up to their call time, or something goes wrong without their parents around and you need to get in touch with them, keep contact information in your phone. Don’t just leave that info at the studio—bring it with you so you can use it in times of crisis.
5. Snacks
Low energy caused by hunger can ruin everything at a competition. Come prepared to stop hangry attitudes in their tracks!
