Documentary Film Reveals You’re Never too Old to Dance

If you’ve ever thought your ability to shake it on the dance floor would cease once the golden years approached, think again. One of the documentaries featured at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival in New York City shows that dancing has no age limits.

Gotta Dance, which made its world premiere Saturday, April 26, captures the making of the NBA’s first-ever senior citizen dance team, the New Jersey NETSationals. The film follows 13 seniors—12 women and 1 male—as they face tough auditions, rigorous practices and learn to pop, lock and break it down in front of thousands of screaming Nets’ fans during home games.

Director Dori Berinstein, a three-time Tony award-winner and producer of the Broadway hit Legally Blonde, said in Time Out New York on April 9 that, “This movie is a non-stop dance party! It’s Bad News Bears meets the flip side of Mad Hot Ballroom.”

Most of the 60-to-80-year-old team members have never danced professionally (especially not hip hop), but their heartwarming story will challenge viewers to look at aging in a different light and inspire those with dreams to keep them alive.

Keep your eyes peeled for the film’s national debut later this year. For more information, check out www.gottadancethemovie.com.
