News: YoungArts Names Three Presidential Scholars in Dance

By rzar

Each year, out of over 6,000 applicants, The White House Commission on Presidential Scholars nominates 60 finalists for consideration during the YoungArts week adjudication process in Miami, FL. Only 20 are ultimately named U.S. Presidential Scholars in the Arts. In June, three young dancers, Ida Saki, Robert Moore and Austin Goodwin, were among those honored in a White House ceremony during National Recognition Week. They performed at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, on June 21.

Ida Saki, 17, a modern dancer from Plano, Texas, trains at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. She is also a member of Dance Industry PAC’s pre-professional company and was Dance Spirit magazine’s 2009 Cover Model Search winner.

Austin Goodwin, 17, a choreographer from Plano, TX, dances at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. He is also a member of the Senior Company at Motion Center for Dance.

Robert Moore, 18, a modern dancer from Los Angeles, California, currently lives in Houston, where he is a dance major at the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.
