News: NDA Focuses on Dance Teachers

By rzar

The 2010 National Dance Association (NDA) Pedagogy Conference, “The Learning Circle: Dance Pedagogy Leads our Practice,” takes place January 15–18 at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM. In addition to presentations and classes, interactive workshops will give insight into the teaching techniques of Brenda McCutcheon, Bill Evans and Dr. Fran Cleland. The Pan American Dance Institute and Danza Sin Fronteras (Dance without Borders) will perform during the weekend. While technique classes for students will be offered, this conference is all about teachers.

According to Debra Knapp, one of the conference’s directors and director of dance at NMSU, the event offers something that the annual conventions held by NDA’s parent organization, the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, cannot. “We spread ourselves a little thinner at those big conventions,” she says. “This conference just really focuses in on dance teachers.”
