Ballet Class Blogging: School of Fish
Second semester at Groove with Me is underway, and my class (for girls ages 6–8) is going swimmingly—pun intended. Our recital piece will be to music from Disney’s The Little Mermaid, and they’ll be dancing to the upbeat Caribbean tune, “Under the Sea.”

To kick of the 3rd episode, Brooke was conveniently placed at the top of the pyramid. “Conveniently,” because it made for really great TV drama when she left the team in the middle of rehearsals for that week’s competition in New Jersey.
DT on Dance Moms: Applesauce
Episode two of the highly-dramatized reality show brought the troupes to Ohio: The Abby Lee Miller Dance Company competed against their TV-show rival, Candy Apples Dance Center.
To prepare for the on-screen showdown, both studio directors got their students amped for competition by pitting students against students of the opposing team. Being spirited is important to the world of competition, but is it crossing the line when being cutthroat and aggressive pumps up your students?
Martha Graham Goes to the Shrink
In July 1999, Janet Eilber said she glanced at the the newspaper before putting on her glasses—see photo above—and exclaimed, “Who is that dancer doing a contraction on the front page?!” This was a very cute ending to a long, serious and Martha-Graham-style-dramatic evening, in which Eilber, artistic director of the Martha Graham Dance Company, presented during the 2012 American Psychoanalytic Association’s National Meeting.
